We’re supporting Makants Greyhound Rescue!
At Travall, keeping dogs safe on every journey is at the heart of what we do. Whether it’s a quick trip to the park or a cross-country adventure, travelling safely with your dog isn’t just good practice, it’s essential for their wellbeing and yours.
As we approach April, Adopt a Greyhound Month, we’re proud to announce our support for Makants Greyhound Rescue, a Greater Manchester based charity, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming ex-racing greyhounds, they ensure every dog has the chance of a secure and happy future. Over the years they have successfully homed just over 740 ex-racing greyhounds!
To help these newly adopted dogs start their new lives safely, Travall will be gifting every Makants adopter in April with a Travall Dog Guard, because safety should always come as standard.

Why safe dog travel matters
Many dog owners don’t realise that an unrestrained dog in a vehicle poses serious risks. In the event of sudden braking or a collision, a dog can be thrown forward with significant force, potentially injuring themselves and passengers.
That’s why in the UK, Rule 57 of the Highway Code states that dogs must be suitably restrained when travelling in a vehicle. A dog guard is classed as a suitable restraint, helping to prevent distractions to the driver and reducing the risk of injury in the event of an accident.
For greyhounds in particular, safe travel is especially important. As a breed, they are gentle, sensitive and often new to everyday experiences after leaving racing life. Ensuring they feel secure in the car is a key part of building their confidence.
Why choose a Travall Dog Guard?
At Travall, our dog guards are:
- Vehicle-specific for a perfect fit
- Crash tested for safety assurance
- Designed to keep dogs secure in the trunk
- Built to reduce driver distraction
By installing a properly fitted dog guard, you create a dedicated, secure space in the trunk of your car. This not only protects your dog but also keeps all passengers safer.
When adopting a greyhound, or any dog, safe travel should be one of the first considerations. From the very first journey home, having the right equipment in place sets the tone for responsible ownership.
Supporting Makants Greyhound Rescue
Greyhound adoption offers these remarkable dogs a second chance at life. Despite their racing background, greyhounds are famously calm, affectionate and well-suited to family life. However, transitioning from kennels to a home environment takes patience, understanding and care. That’s why, all Makants hounds spend time in their ‘home from home’ enrichment room which is equipped with many household items such as a washing machine, tumble dryer and T.V. This helps them become used to everyday noises and situations and helps with their transition process from a racing greyhound to a pet greyhound.
The team at Makants Greyhound Rescue works tirelessly to:
- Rescue and rehabilitate ex-racing greyhounds
- Assess, neuter, vaccinate and microchip their greyhounds prior to rehoming
- Carefully match dogs with loving homes
- Support adopters throughout the transition
This April, we’re proud to support Makants Greyhound Rescue in their vital work and celebrate Adopt a Greyhound Month. By gifting a Travall Dog Guard to every adopter during Adopt a Greyhound Month, we’re helping ensure that each newly rehomed greyhound travels safely from day one.
